Miquel Wert's artistic practice often begins with found or orphaned photographs, reflecting a fascination that began with his own family albums. These images, linked to a distant branch of his genealogy, fueled his imagination and sparked a passion for archives and family photography. Idealizing these artifacts, she began to explore her identity through her Swedish origins and ancestors, using non-art photography as the basis for her work.

Over time, this approach has evolved into a deeper exploration of the literary legacy and archetypal imagery rooted in fairy tales. Influenced by Scandinavian children's literature and its connection to maternal lineage, Wert's work creates a bridge between the personal and the collective, evoking the mystery of nature and universal archetypes. Combining pre-existing images with literary references, his art invites reflection on the endurance of memory and myth.

Miquel Wert (Barcelona, Spain, 1982) is a Spanish-Swedish painter and muralist based in Barcelona. Raised in a family that values art, Miquel developed a fascination for drawing from an early age. His father's technical drawings and planols, along with comics, illustration and painting, inspired him to draw compulsively-an obsession that eventually led him to study Belles Arts.

He graduated in Fine Arts from the Universitat de Barcelona in 2005 and currently combines his artistic practice with teaching as an associate professor in the Department of Arts and Conservation-Restoration at the same institution.

His artistic journey began in the streets of Barcelona in 1993, when he made his first tag with a schoolmate. In 1996 he was already fully immersed in the graffiti culture, creating large format works on legal and illegal surfaces, often focused on the human figure. In 2002, personal and legal challenges led him to move away from graffiti. After six years of intense studio work, he rethought his relationship with public space, returning to urban interventions with a more introspective and personal gaze. Beyond the conventions of graffiti, he began to explore pictorial themes, often drawing inspiration from his family roots and experimenting with mixed media-using brushes, reels, and unconventional tools-long before the emergence of new figurative muralism and the influence of social media.

Since 2000, his paintings and murals have been exhibited in nearly a hundred solo and group exhibitions internationally, including galleries, cultural institutions and art fairs. He is represented by Galerie Arte lleva Tiempo (Cléon-de Andran, France), Luxart Galerie (Arlon, Belgium), Galerie Anquin's (Reus, Spain) and Galerie Friedmann-Hahn (Berlin, Germany).

His work has received wide recognition, including First Prize at the LIV International Drawing Prize Ynglada-Guillot (2016) and an Honorable Mention in the Stipendutstilling exhibition at Galleri Ramfjord (Oslo, Norway). He has also obtained grants and residencies from institutions such as the Círculo Artístico de San Lucas, Torrearte and JISER: Reflexiones Mediterráneas.

His works are part of public and private collections in more than a dozen countries, including the Real Academia Catalana de Belles Arts de San Jorge, the Fondo de Patrimonio de la Universitat de Barcelona, JISER (Spain/Tunisia), Cervezas Ambar, Vermut Miró, as well as several municipal collections in Spain and Portugal. His murals can be found in public spaces in France, Austria, Portugal, Tunisia and Spain.

Miquel's figurative art, rich in narrative and emotional depth, explores themes such as memory, identity and the intersection between collective and personal histories.
