‘Maleza’ is a short film about control, the unwanted, life and its contradictions, which seeks to explore the various possibilities of interaction between humans and the uncontrollable side of nature. In the exhibition Terrario de malas hierbas: el proceso creativo de Maleza”, the reverse side of what you see on the screen is presented, a folding away of the creative process inherent in the making of a short film.

Carina Pierro Corso, the author, is a Brazilian visual artist living in Portugal. She has a degree in Visual Arts from IA-UNICAMP (Instituto das Artes – Universidade Estadual de Campinas) and a master’s degree in Sound and Image with specialisation in Animation from EA-UCP (Escola de Artes – Universidade Católica Portuguesa).

‘Maleza’ is a short film about control, the unwanted, life and its contradictions, which seeks to explore the various possibilities of interaction between humans and the uncontrollable side of nature. In the exhibition Terrario de malas hierbas: el proceso creativo de Maleza”, the reverse side of what you see on the screen is presented, a folding away of the creative process inherent in the making of a short film.

Carina Pierro Corso, the author, is a Brazilian visual artist living in Portugal. She has a degree in Visual Arts from IA-UNICAMP (Instituto das Artes - Universidade Estadual de Campinas) and a master's degree in Sound and Image with specialisation in Animation from EA-UCP (Escola de Artes - Universidade Católica Portuguesa).

She is the director of the short film ‘Everything that remains on the surface dies’ (2021), a project developed during the first year of her master's degree, winner of the National Animation Award 2022 (Portugal), as ‘best film in the category of schools’.

His most recent work is ‘Weeds’ (2024), produced by Studio Kimchi. In her work as a whole, Carina shows interest in the expression of human subjectivity, seeking to communicate personal experiences, paying special attention to the materiality of the supports and techniques she uses.

Symbolism full of ideas, beauty and poetic content, inspired by the observation of nature.
