Description of the work

The work Sushi is by the artist Xano Armenter. Digital reproduction technique on canvas. Measures 46.5 x 66.5 cm. In the Espai Cavallers gallery.

Born in Las Palmas to a Catalan family, he studied graphic design at the Eina School in Barcelona (1973-1976) and art (1978-1980). Important influences were Catalan informalism, emerging local conceptualism and pop. He traveled to New York where he settled and completed his studies at the School of Visual Arts with Milton Glaser (1981) and recorded at the New York Academy (1982).

During the 1980s, he lived in the East Village of New York. There he first notices the influence of pattern painting, an ephemeral movement that he takes by chance, and especially the impact on the urban scene that represents this city of legend, where graffiti and a new generation of artists propose a decade back to the painting.

From the 90's his work is directed towards a colorful abstraction while following figurative paths during his residency in Los Angeles.

He has works in collections in the USA, Japan, Germany, France, England and Spain. He currently lives and works in Barcelona.
